Manuel H. (Manny) Newburger is a nationally known attorney
in the area of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. In addition to handling
private and class action consumer and commercial litigation, he consults and
testifies as an expert in Fair Debt cases across the United States, and he has been retained by collection
agencies, debt buyers, creditors, and law firms to negotiate or assist in the
defense of such cases in Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut,
Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi,
Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota,
Tennessee, Texas, and Wisconsin. He has been quoted in articles on the Act in
the National Law Journal, Lawyers Weekly USA, Collection &
Credit Risk, and The Texas Lawyer, and in 1991, he testified at the
last oversight hearing on the FDCPA. He has represented the Commercial Law
League of America as an amicus curiae in
Heintz v.
Jenkins, 514 U.S. 291, 115 S.Ct. 1489 (1995), the only FDCPA case to
date to reach the Supreme Court, and in
White v.
Goodman, 200 F.3d 1016 (7th Cir. 2000), and
Riviere
v. Banner Chevrolet, Inc.,
184 F.3d 457 (5th Cir. 1999). Mr. Newburger has given numerous continuing legal
education presentations around the United States on the Fair Debt Collection
Practices Act, and through Fair Debt Consultants, L.L.C. he conducts private
FDCPA compliance trainings for creditors, collection agencies, debt buyers, and
law firms. He has been admitted to practice before the Texas Supreme Court, the
United States Supreme Court, the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fifth
and Seventh Circuits, all four United States District Courts for the State of
Texas, and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of
Wisconsin, and he has been certified as a specialist in consumer and commercial
law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. _________________________________________________________ Barbara M. Barron is the co-author of

In addition to insolvency work and class action consumer and commercial
litigation she, too, regularly assists clients with FDCPA compliance issues. Her
B.A. magna cum laude with honors in economics) from Barnard college and
M.B.A. from Columbia University give her a strong background in business issues,
and she also assists collection industry clients in the area of business
planning and corporate structuring. Ms. Barron has been admitted to practice
